Multiplication Story Problems

In Math, we have been thinking about many different ways to represent multiplication. We worked with a partner to write a story problem that uses multiplication. Here are some of the problems that we wrote:

1. Bob, his brother Bobby and his friend Max each got 18 Christmas presents from their parents. How many presents did they get all together? – Jeesu and Matthew

2. One day there were 4 children playing Lego. Each one had 4 Lego ships. How many ships were there in all? – Alan and Axel

3. James has 3 crates. Each crate has 5 chocolate bars. How many chocolate bars are there all together? – Lizzie and Megan

4. Max told his mom to buy 3 Bakugans. His mom bought Max 12 times the amount he wanted. How many does he now have? - Jimy and Gordon

5. Mrs. Jansen, Mrs. LaVoie and Mrs. Van Campen went to a toy store and bought 3 packets of silly bands each. One packet has 5 silly bands in it. How many silly bands do they have all together? - Nina and Stacey

6. It is Bobby’s birthday. There are 17 people in his family and each of them gave him 9 presents. How many presents did he get all together? - Maxim and Svea

7. Bob and Bobby have 26 toys. They then get four times the amount that they had. How many do they have now? - Alastair and Sebastian

8. Axelle and Ilinca each had 4 brothers. Each brother has 8 friends. How many friends are there all together? - Ilinca and Axelle

9. There are 8 trees. On each tree there are 7 birds. How many birds are there all together? – Cecily and Julia

10. In the I-Garden, there were 14 sunflowers. On each sunflower, there were 3 bees. How many bees are there all together? – Aoi and Chiho

11. Kika had 4 cakes. Bob had 4 times more cakes than Kika. How many cakes does Bob have? – Finn and Brandon

  2. Who exactly are Bob and Bobby, anyway? As long as they help us multiply, they're okay in my book.
