Friday Update

We have had a busy and productive week.

  • The children are bringing home their literature response journals today to share with you over the weekend.  They have chosen two pieces of work to showcase and one piece of work that they think needs improvement (two stars and a wish).
  • In Math, we are working on representing and modeling division problems in a variety of ways.  We are playing a game called Missing Factors.  The children see a product and one of the product's factors on a card, and are required to use mental math to find the missing factor.  We have also looked at division story problems and are thinking about how to handle remainders in different situations.  We have been investigating how multiplication and division are inverse operations.
  • In the POI, we have thought about the I.C.T. we use at school and at home.  We have inquired into using new I.C.T. in the classroom as a part of our learning.  The children have figured out how to record their voices using the Easi-Speak Pro microphones and they can upload the files onto a computer.  They are working on putting the file onto a Voicethread, which can then be uploaded onto our blog.
  • We are working on persuasive writing.  We looked at examples from www.writingfun.com, and we wrote a persuasive writing piece with a partner to share an opinion about technology.  We read each other’s work in order to come up with criteria for what to include in persuasive writing.  We will use this criteria to self assess and peer assess our future work with this text type.  All of this practice will help us write a persuasive letter to Mr. Lorenzini to either recommend or reject the iPod touch.

Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs. LaVoie
